Mobile Oil Regeneration Plant

The Mobile Oil Regeneration Plant is designed to fully regenerate transformer oil in the field, either under energized or de-energized conditions. The system performs functions such as degassing, drying, and filtration, with the primary task of removing acids, sludge, and dissolved waste materials from the oil. The regenerated oil thus achieves improved oxidation stability, a clear color reminiscent of its initial use, and a degassed characteristic.

Developed by Real Group Energy, this system produces no harmful waste and is environmentally friendly and ecological. The computer-controlled software ensures continuous regeneration of the oil in the transformer without any power interruption.

The main philosophy behind the development of this plant is the economical rejuvenation of old oil in energized transformers while they are operational. This application, whether for energized or de-energized transformers, is straightforward.

Contaminated oil is drawn from the bottom of the transformer into the regeneration plant. The oil, passed through heaters, is first filtered through a 30-micron filter to remove coarse impurities. The degraded transformer oil then flows over absorbent clay blocks known as "Fuller's Earth" during the regeneration process. These blocks restore the structural properties that the oil has lost over time (acidity, power factor, interfacial tension, and oxidation stability) to their original values.

The oil, after passing through the clay blocks, is filtered through a second 0.5-micron filter before entering a vacuum chamber. Here, standard purification processes (removal of moisture and gases) are applied, and the purified oil is pumped back into the transformer tank.

As the system operates in a closed loop, there is no change in the oil level of the transformer. Safety air release systems are present in the valves connected to the transformer’s inlet and outlet. Since the renewed oil is fed back to the transformer through a tank, unwanted tripping of the Buchholz relay during this process is prevented.
